Group calls for review of NSP biomass supply

July 2, 2014, Point Tupper, N.S. – The Margaree Environmental Association is calling on Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil to delay harvesting in the province in order to review the fibre supply for Nova Scotia Power.

Environmental Association is calling on Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil to
delay harvesting in the province in order to review the fibre supply for Nova
Scotia Power.

 

According to a report in The Herald News, the organization
is concerned over the quality of wood being used for the NSP biomass supply, as
well as the total amount of wood being cut to supply the plant.

 

Several companies involved in the wood fibre business in
Nova Scotia have raised concerns in recent months over the quality of fibre
being directed to the plant. However, a spokesperson for NSP denies that
high-value hardwoods are being used for biomass.
