April 19, 2016 - The winners of the 2016 “Bio-based Material of the Year” Innovation Award were recently announced at the 9th annual International Conference on Bio-based Materials, a two-day event held in Cologne, Germany.

This year’s winners include Orineo’s Touch of Nature, a range of biomaterials based on coffee waste filled resins; REWOFERM SL 446, a new biosurfactant developed by Evonik; and Covestro’s Impranil eco, a line of bio-based dispersion for textile coatings.

The Innovation Award focuses on new developments in the bio-based economy, with this year’s edition focusing on products that had—or will have—a market launch in 2015 or 2016. Six companies were nominated by the conference’s advisory board, with each nominee providing a short 10-minute presentation to the audience explaining its innovative products. The three winners were then elected by the participants of the conference and announced at the Innovation Award Ceremony.

This year’s conference was attended by over 200 participants from 25 different countries, with presentations from more than 20 companies. Now in its ninth year, the conference offers stakeholders in the field of bio-based chemicals and materials an opportunity to come together and share and learn about the latest innovations in the sector.
